Achieving clean low light footage with Red Epic Dragon is an aquired skill, one that director of photography Roland Larocque seems to have mastered. The clip was mostly shot with available light with the exception of the neon tubes placed on the ground by art director Jeremy Sandor. The combination of the neon electrics and the foliage of the forest is an interesting combination. Be sure to check it out! A Tiffen Black Satin filter really helped round off the highlights and give the Zeiss Standard Speeds a softer feel to help create the smoky atmosphere of the forest.

We love film. Especially gorgeous 16mm like this. This project was brought on by our good friend Martin C. Pariseau and the lovely people at Sid Lee. Working with Creative Director Jean-François Dumais and Director of Photography Ariel Methot, we had a blast finding the right mood and style for this short. Working with 16mm always has its challenges but this project was a smooth sailing.

Vintage and fresh? The two don't always mesh so well. In the case of "Alien" it works perfectly. Shot on Alexa by DP Edouard Dufour-Boiteau, there is enough vintage baked into the image that we didn't have to go too far in post to get the look we needed. A Tiffen Smoque filter was used to give the highs a distinct halo effect. Couple the optics with some retro VFX work by Val Michailov and you have the ingredients for a refreshing retro video clip.

La Maine is a new production company headed by Philippe Chagnon and Vincent Gonneville. Here is a great example of the directing duo's talent on Larry Kidd's "La grande beauté". It has a simple concept and unique pacing that's slower than the norm. It offers you the chance to truly take in and appreciate the imagery photographed by Vincent.

Check them out and give them some love!

Ariel Poupart is a young director and DoP that likes to walk the line between conventional and unconventional. We went for a vintage over developed film look with a slight under-exposure for the latest Deuxluxes release “Tobacco Vanilla”. VFX artist Val Michailov worked his magic on many of the shots. Some of the effects are so subtle that you may not notice them at first. Keep an eye out for Val.

In the end we get an old western vibe with a modern touch!
